Bluefield, Virginia- The men's soccer program has been working hard in placement of players into different premier development leagues for the summer months in preparation for their 2012 fall campaign and the work has paid off.

The Rams will send four to five different players into clubs across the country including two players to the Dayton Dutch Lions FC, a USL-PRO club, in Dayton, Ohio.

Dayton, an affiliate of Hollands #1 professional club FC Twente, will be hosting both D/MF Chris Gummer and FWD (turned D) James Gunn for the summer months.

The two underclassmen will play with the Under-20 side in the USL's Super 20 league against Midwest powerhouses such as Columbus Crew Juniors, Chicago Fire U20's, Toronto and many others. They will also have the opportunity to take in on training sessions and matches of the USL-pro team who is the top-tier team in the organization.

Current sophomore GK Jefferson Watson will see training and sessions with the USL's PDL (Premier/Professional Development League) Northern Virginia Royals, while he returns home to the Woodbridge, Virginia area.

Down south in the sunshine state, freshman forward Anthony Hunt will begin training in Jacksonville with another PDL team in local club, Jax Destroyers, managed by longtime EPL player Aidan Davison.

Several incoming players will also be in action this summer in order to stay in match shape including those in systems from Roanoke Star, Houston Texans, Kendall SC and others.

"We are thrilled to be able to get a few players introduced into the soccer industry in a variety of ways, whether it is through playing, training, camps or internships," added assistant coach Chase Neidig.

"Our goal is to inevitably create the platform for our players (and new players down the road) to reach their maximum potential. This may be through being a professional athlete, business manager in sports, athletic trainer, a coach or something else."

The Rams in 2012-2013 will continue raising the bar high for its quality of players, and as a result, prepare more student-athletes for a brighter future by helping them reach their goals.
