Rams open road trip with loss

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The Bluefield men’s basketball team lost to No. 14 Lindsey Wilson on Thursday night, 83-50.
The Rams (6-9, 2-5 Mid-South) fell behind 8-0 in the opening minutes and never found their footing at Biggers Sports Arena.
Bluefield senior Byron Carpenter, who leads the conference in scoring this year, was the only Rams in double figures. He led all scorers with 14 points and grabbed five rebounds.
Kearsten Marion scored nine points for Bluefield.
The Rams shot 35 percent (17-49) from the floor and were outrebounded, 43-28. Lindsey Wilson shot 52 percent (33-63) and had twenty more assists than Bluefield (23).
Lindsey Wilson (16-2, 6-2 MSC) guard Daronte’ Clark hit two three-pointers and a deep two-point shot in the opening seconds to put the Blue Raiders ahead 8-0. Buckets from Carpenter and Marion made back-to-back baskets to cut the lead in half at 8-4.
The two teams traded baskets until a drive down the baseline from Josh Nesbit brought the Rams within five at 20-15.
After four unanswered points from Lindsey Wilson, Pierre Walters hit a hook shot in the post to close the deficit to 24-17, but a three-pointer from Chase Cox sparked a 14-3 run from the Blue Raiders and Bluefield never recovered.
The Rams continue their road trip on Saturday at 4 p.m. against Campbellsville (9-6, 3-4 MSC).
