Rams Jump into Top-10 Poll
Bluefield College leaps into the NCCAA Women’s Basketball Division I Official Top 10 Rankings, the national office announced Tuesday.

BLUEFIELD, Va. -- Bluefield College leaps into the NCCAA Women’s Basketball Division I Official Top 10 Rankings, the national office announced Tuesday.
Bluefield went unranked to start the season made the largest jump earning the fourth spot, joined fellow Mid-South Conference member in the top five after Campbellsville (Ky.) moved up seven spots from a week ago into No. 3.
The Rams who went unranked to open the season jumped into the fourth spot based on a 7.778 Burbridge Power Rating from their 6-3 record. This season the Rams defeated then NAIA Women’s Basketball Preseason Coaches Top-25 Poll No. 6 Georgetown, 83-73, and opened the season a perfect 6-0 before losing to 22nd Ranked Bethel (Tenn.). Of BC’s three losses this season, all have come against teams ranked or receiving votes in the NAIA Women’s Basketball Preseason Coaches Top-25 Poll.
Last season Bluefield finished a program best 22-12 under Coach Melissa Baker and advanced to the NCCAA National Tournament where they finished a program best sixth before falling to Emmanuel (Ga.).
Olivet Nazarene (Ill.), Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.), Shorter (Ga.), Southeastern (Fla.), and Malone (Ohio) all make an appearance in the Top-10 after going unranked to start the season.
California Baptist fell from the fourth spot to seventh and was the only team to move down more than a spot and remain in the Top-10.
Indiana Wesleyan is No. 1 in the poll with a Burbridge Power Ranking of 8.944. Cedarville (Ohio) is No. 2 with an 8.583 Burbridge followed by Campbellsville and Bluefield. Olivet Nazarene rounds out the top-five with .068 point behind the Rams with a 7.714 Burbridge.
The Rams return to action on Thursday with a 5:30 tip at Virginia Intermont will play seven contests before facing Campbellsville on Jan. 12 before the Tigers arrive at the Dome Gymnasium Jan. 24.
