Mason, Ohio- The Bluefield College baseball team struggled to find runs on Friday morning in their final pool play game of the 2012 NCCAA Baseball World Series dropping a 8-2 loss to #3 seed Oklahoma Wesleyan University.
The Eagles quickly jumped on the Rams with two initial runs in the top of the first inning when Ruiz, Hardy and Davis singled in the order to take an early 2-0 lead.
Bluefield responded with a run of their own when they tallied three hits on the scoreboard by Riley, Kyle Long and a RBI double by Russell-Myers to split the lead in half at 2-1.
The very next inning Oklahoma Wesleyan flew away with several deep extra base hits after swarming senior Joey Andrews on the mound for Bluefield.
Wesleyan had bases loaded on three different occasions in the first five innings, including twice in the fourth inning. They would collect five hits on the frame, including smoking three-run triple to deep right-center by Jerett Hardy, who finished with four RBI.
Struggling on the mound in his final performance in a Bluefield uniform, Andrews allowed seven earned runs in 3.2 innings with four strikeouts to finish with an 8-3 record on the year.
Bluefield went silent at the plate in the fourth inning with a 1-2-3 inning as they were retired in succession by Casey Sheline. Sheline finished with a complete game allowing just two earned runs, while striking out four batters.
The Rams picked up the slack in the fifth inning, but started their push with two outs again. Alex Riley singled up the middle and Kyle Long drove a base hit to center field. Just as they looked to have a chance to punch a run in, he Rams' Russell-Myers watched a third-strike fly by him to retire the inning and strand two runners.
It was the second time in the game through five innings that the Rams had stranded runners and were sent packing with a called third strike looking.
Bluefield chipped away at the Eagles lead in the bottom of the seventh inning with early runners. Oklahoma Wesleyan turned its third double play after two early hits by Bluefield, but Moon's batted ball would score the final run for the Rams in the final inning.
Wesleyan added a single run in the top of the inning to get its eigth run, but it was enough as the Rams couldn't translate 11 hits into more than two runs.
It was the second straight game Bluefield tallied the same amount of runs as its opponent (11v11; 9v9 against Mid-Continent) but the final scoreline showed drastically different as the Rams allowed 17 runs in the final two games at the World Series.
Alex Riley highlighted the early contest on Friday after going 4 for 4 with a run scored.
