Rams Drop Conference Matchup Against Milligan March 15, 2011 | RSS Bluefield, VA— After three straight losses the Rams were hoping to rebound against AAC opponent Milligan College as they opened conference action this past weekend. Adam Hoyt pitched game two for the Rams against Milligan. Spring break was not kind for the Rams who played weekend games against TennesseeTemple, which they split the two game series, and losing a doubleheader against West Virginia Tech mid week. David Gibson took the mound in game one pitching a complete game for the Rams. Gibson only had one earned run in the 1-0 loss; he also had three hits with nine strikeouts during his time on the mound. Offensively the Rams only had one hit with eight strikeouts. Hoping to rebound in game two the Rams sent Adam Hoyt to the mound, who like Gibson pitched a complete game. Game two also had a resurgence of the Rams hitting power with seven hits and five runs. Joe Gatewood had two RBIs with Zac Goodyear adding another RBI. Kyle Cabral, Travis Weaver, Andrew Weaver, Cameron Hynes, and Gatewood each had one run for the Rams in the 6-5 loss. Andrew Weaver and Gatewood had doubles during the game. Hoyt took the loss with six runs on 11 hits with two walks and seven strikeouts. Milligan gained back their hitting power in game three with 15 hits to the Rams nine hits. The Buffaloes won game three 11-2 in their final game on Sunday. The Rams had five pitchers during the two and a half hour game with Josh McQuade getting the start. McQuade pitched four innings where he had six runs on eight hits with one walk and five strikeouts for the Rams. Cabrel had a solid game in the batters box for the Rams doubling twice with one run in five at bats. Andrew Weaver also had one run in the loss. Gatewood and Hynes each had one RBI. Joey Andrews pitched to five batters with three runs on two hits. Also seeing pitching action was Mike Newton who lasted thru two innings with one run on one hit. Chastin Akers returned from an injury in the WV Tech game earlier in the week, pitched one inning with one run on three hits. Taylor Marshall pitched the final inning in the game Milligan having one hit. McQuade took the loss for the Rams. The Rams (6-14; 0-3) will travel to Emory and Henry on Thursday, March 17 for a 3:00 pm game. This weekend the Rams will face AAC opponent BryanCollege to continue conference play.
