Overtime dominance gives Lady Rams the victory over Bryan College By Sports Information Department BC | January 14, 2012 | RSS Bluefield College Athletics Sports Information Department Bluefield, Virginia Bluefield, Virginia- The Bluefield College women's basketball team showed their maturity and experience as they pulled away with a dominating overtime period as the Bryan College Lady Lions extended play yet resulting in a Bluefield 59-55 win at the Dome Gymnasium. The two teams swapped the lead back and forth in the first half and went into the locker room at the break with Bluefield leading by just one point 26-25. The teams traded the lead a few times in the second half as well. With a minute left in regulation, the Lady Lions had their biggest lead of the game at 50-45 with little time for Bluefield to take care of business. However, Bluefield rattled off five points in the final minute including a clutch 3-pointer by Rouse at 50-47 to send the game into overtime. Bryan scored the first basket of the overtime. The Lady Rams scored the next five points. All square at 55-55, Bluefield got contribution from several players and tallied the final four points as Bluefield made two great defensive stops to hold Bryan scoreless late in overtime. Even though being outshot in their FG percentage by a large difference (Bryan- 46%, Bluefield- 30%),Bluefield caused 22 Bryan turnovers while the Lady Rams had only 10. The win was the seventh in a row for the Lady Rams, as national polls awarded Bluefield with a #19-ranked listing on this week's polls. Bluefield will travel to Virginia Intermont on Wednesday for another AAC meeting. Gametime set for 5:30pm. High Scorers: Cataldi (12), Rouse (12) and McNeal (10).
