Originally slated for Thursday, November 1, the Variations and BC Orchestra performance was moved to make up rehearsal time lost during the inclement weather days caused by the recent snow storm.
Under the direction of music professor Bryant Moxley, Variations is an auditioned touring chamber choir of Bluefield College that performs a wide variety of the most challenging choral literature. The group represents a wide variety of students from various academic disciplines, not just music majors. In addition to its on-campus performances, Variations tours annually throughout the region and has performed twice at Carnegie Hall and once at the Lincoln Center in New York City. The group has also performed internationally in Italy, Austria and the Czech Republic, and has served on music mission trips for at-risk kids in the inner cities of New York.
During the November 13 concert at Bluefield College, Variations will perform a variety of sacred choral works that uniquely feature instrumental solo accompaniments, including harp, oboe, flute, French horn, and violin. The group will also perform a rousing Dixieland combo.
Under the direction of music professor Charles Priest, the BC Orchestra is an auditioned group of both campus and community instrumentalists that performs works from standard orchestral literature. The group often collaborates with Bluefield College choral ensembles for the presentation of major works, including standard orchestral literature.
During the November 13 concert, the BC Orchestra will perform works by Aaron Copland and Camille Saint-Saens. The Orchestra will also perform classical Looney Tunes selections, including those most famous for their association to Bugs Bunny.
Admission at the door for the Variations and BC Orchestra concert will be $5 for adults and $2 for non-BC students and senior citizens. Members of the BC family will be admitted for free.
