NCCAA DI Women's Basketball All Mid-East Region Honors Announced

          BLUEFIELD, Va. – Bluefield College’s Tequila McNeal and Union University’s Amy Philamlee are Co-National Christian College Athletic Association’s (NCCAA) Mid-East Player of the Year. The pair join thirteen additional student-athletes receiving NCCAA All Mid-East Region honors, which are voted on by the region’s coaches. Coaches could not vote for their own players.


The announcement came following the NCCAA’s Division I Women’s Basketball Mid-East Region championship game, as Union University defeated Bluefield College, 83-67, at the Dome Gymnasium to earn an automatic bid to the NCCAA National Championships.


McNeal led Bluefield in scoring this season, averaging over 17 points per game. The guard is also amongst the team’s top rebounders, averaging five per contest. A native of Columbia, S.C., McNeal ranked inside the region’s top-10 for scoring (2nd), field goal percentage (5th, 44.7%) and steals (6th, 2.0 spg).


Philamlee also serves as Union’s leading scorer, tallying nearly 14 points per game. The sophomore guard ranks second on her team in assists (3.5 apg) and steals (1.5 spg). Philamlee, a native of Jonesboro, Ark., ranked inside the region’s top-10 for scoring (6th), field goal percentage (7th, 43.8%), three-point percentage (8th, 34.5%), free throw percentage (2nd, 85.6%) and assists (5th).


Bluefield’s Ashley White, Covenant College’s Jessie Blankenship and Mid-Continent’s Stephanie Malone join McNeal and Philamlee as all region first team honorees.


Bluefield earned four All Mid-East Region representatives, the most of any school. Janee Simmons (2nd) and Monique Robson (HM) earned honors in addition to the squad’s two first team members.


Union had the second most, with three total representatives. LaTesa McLaughlin and Amber Rechis both earned second team honors in addition to Philamlee’s selection.


Union University head coach Mark Campbell is awarded NCCAA Mid-East Region Coach of the Year after leading his team to the regional title.
