Men's Soccer Players Earn All-AAC Honors By Sports Information Department BC | November 10, 2011 | RSS Bluefield College Athletics Sports Information Department Bluefield, Virginia Elizabethtown, Tenn.- On Thursday evening, the AAC Men's Soccer Fall Banquet took place at Milligan College ahead of the Final Four conference tournament for the Applachian Athletic Conference. Alongside the dinner banquet, the conference awards were given out for top players, coaches and team awards for the 2011 season. Bluefield took home two awards on the night, as Sophomore James Gunn and Freshman Jacob Mader earned all-conference team spots. Both new to the Bluefield program, these two players were integral parts of the incoming class in 2011 consisting of 15 new players on this year's roster. Gunn, an Australian-born player, helped anchor a defense that broke several Bluefield men's soccer records including least goals given up in a season, GAA (goals against average) and most shutouts in a season (five). These records are the top in the men's soccer history book now. Mader, a freshman conference player-of-year nominee, was a key component to the Bluefield offensive attack in 2011. He tallied 11 goals and dished out 3 assists, good for 25 points and top five in the conference. He led a long list of high-point leaders on team as well (Frazillio, Turpin and Georgiadas) who were not far behind. "While we expected more awards than just James and Jacob, we are delighted with the recognition these two guys have received from the other coaches in our conference," added assistant coach Chase Neidig. "It shows the hard work rate and dedication on and off the pitch that these players put in to get good results. We are building for an amazing future, and we look forward to what is in store not only for Mader and Gunner, but also the other great players we have in our program." The men's soccer team will take a short break before returning to work when they start their off-season weight training program and other developing tactics ahead of their 2012 Spring season.
