LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Bluefield College's Tequila McNeal is the Mid-South Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday.
The weekly MSC honor is first for McNeal and the first for a Bluefield women's basketball player since joining the conference over the summer.
The Columbia, S.C., senior guard averaged 23 points and 5.5 rebounds per game last week as the Rams won a pair of Mid-South Conference games at home.
McNeal was instrumental in the Rams' 83-73 upset of No. 6-ranked Georgetown College last Thursday. She poured in a career-high 32 points -- including making six 3-pointers -- while finishing with six steals in the win.
On Saturday, McNeal helped the Rams improve to 2-0 in the Mid-South Conference with a 64-50 win over visiting St. Catharine College. She ended the game with 14 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals in the win.
For the week, McNeal shot 51.4 percent (18-of-35) from the floor while making half of her 16 3-point attempts. She also averaged three assists and five steals in the two games.
This season, McNeal is fourth in the Mid-South and 15th in the NAIA averaging 19.2 points per game. She ranks seventh in the conference in field goal percentage (51.2) and 3-point field goal percentage (41.2). She also ranks in the conference's top-10 in 3-pointers made per game (2.3) and steals per game (3.2).
Bluefield's 6-0 start to the season is the best in the program's modern era. The Rams are tied atop the league standings with their 2-0 conference mark.
The next women's basketball player of the week award is scheduled to be announced on Monday, Nov. 26.
