Danville Community College student Kaleb H. Long of Halifax recently signed a letter of intent to continue his baseball career at Bluefield College.
A 2009 Halifax County High School graduate, Long was a member of the DCC Knights’ Baseball Team that took championship honors in the Virginia Community Colleges’ Conference in 2010. Long, who is majoring in Liberal Arts, is the team’s catcher.
In addition to the 2010 championship, DCC also won in 2002, 2006, 2007, and was the runner up in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2008 and 2009. Beginning in 2011, the DCC Knights will be a part of the National Junior College Athletic Association (JUCO) Division II. DCC is in Region X, which includes teams in Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina.
Long had been playing baseball for two years at Danville Community College after transferring from VMI. He continued his college career yesterday with a signing ceremony in Danville.
Long, who had anchored the Comet program as a catcher, is expected to handle the same position at Bluefield.
