Lady Rams win despite a huge Lady Skyhawks 2nd-half rally

The Bluefield women’s basketball team (13-8, 7-4 AAC) picked up a 69-61 win over Point University (7-13, 1-10 AAC) at the Dome Gymnasium today.

A pair of 3-pointers from Antonia Cataldi helped the Lady Rams open up an early seven-point lead, but the Lady Skyhawks closed to gap within one point to make it 22-21 midway through the first half.

Bluefield turned up its full court pressure, forcing turnovers and getting transition layups to fuel a 15-0 run.

Point did not make a shot from the floor in the final five minutes of the half as the Lady Rams closed out the first frame with a 17-3, taking a 39-25 lead into the break.

After a quick basket from Bluefield to open the second half, Point went on a 20-2 run capped of by a 3-pointer from Chauntel Herrod to give the Lady Skyhawks a 45-44 lead.

Back-to-back 3-pointers from Cataldi and Rouse put the Lady Rams back on top, and the two teams traded baskets for several possessions until a string of Lady Skyhawk turnovers sent Bluefield on another run.

Rouse and Teqa McNeal took over for the Lady Rams and closed out Point for the eight-point win.

McNeal lead the Lady Rams with 23 points and seven rebounds, shooting 8-10 from the floor and making all six of her free throw attempts.

Rouse finished with 19 points. Cataldi had 12 points and five rebounds.
