Lady Rams Soccer unveils 2012 Fall Schedule

Tough 4-game road trip highlights a solid 2012 Season for Bluefield

Bluefield, Virginia- The women's soccer team at Bluefield College on Friday unveiled its 2012 Fall Season campaign which includes a full-slate of matches for the first time within the Mid-South Conference and several competitive matches to round out their season.

 

The women's team will open at home against Colombia College on August 23, after tying them 1-1 last year after a double over-time performance. In one of the Lady Rams most competitive and exciting games of the year- the rematch in 2012 should be nothing less.

 

A week later, Bluefield will entertain NCAA II side, Chowan University, for the first-time in women's soccer history. It is the first double-header of the season with the men’s team against Chowan. 

 

After opening the season at home, opposite of the men's team- the Lady Rams will then hit the road to Georgia to take on two NAIA opponents Emmanuel College and Georgia Gwinnet College over Labor Day weekend. Emmanuel went 8-10-1 last season in the Southern States Conference, while GGC will be playing its first competitive inter-collegiate season in women's soccer this year. 

 

In the midst of a tough road schedule, the Lady Rams are eager to return the entire back-four on the defensive side including Ashley Moreno, Dannielle Barlow, Melissa Hubert and Jahlisa Harvey. With key additions to the defense, Snow's side with add great depth to the positions. 

 

The Lady Rams will stay on the road and will be tested in a tough, non-conference match on Saturday, Sept. 8, Bluefield will travel to Division II power-house, Mars Hill- who went 7-10-1 in 2011.

 

In their final match of the four-game road trip, the Lady Rams will hit the road on the 12th for the first conference match against University of Cumberlands before returning home to take on Division II Brevard College on September 15 at 3:00pm.

 

The Lady Rams will finally open their home conference season in its inaugural year in the Mid-South on September 29th against newcomer Cumberland University (Tenn.).

 

After leaving the Appalachian Athletic Conference, Bluefield will see an entirely new slate of teams for the first-time in school history. The ladies will look to their top returning attackers to help anchor their side throughout not only the season, but also a tough conference set. BC returns top contributors in goals and assists with sophomore Braley Freire and junior Pip Pattison, and are joined in the midfield with Lacie Helms, and a new spring addition, Lyndsey Pellatteri, a member of the Puerto Rican Women’s National Soccer Team.  

 

After Fall break, they will have two conferences matches, away at Pikeville on October 10th and home against St. Catherine on the 13th.  Coach Snow's side will then wrap up their Mid-South away matches at Campbellsville on October 16th before returning for two home matches against Shawnee State on the 20th and Rio Grande on the 24th

 

The last two home matches will take place on Saturday the 27th against Division II West Liberty- who the Lady Rams haven't seen in more than a decade. The women will cap their regular season off against NAIA opponent Southern Virginia, who the Rams beat for the first time last season, 2-1 in a stunning over-time victory.
