Greenville, South Carolina- Early this week, the NCCAA announced its all-region teams and the Lady Rams basketball team were awarded with three players on the prestigous list.
SO Teqa McNeal received the 4th most votes out of all players in the Mid-East Region and was awarded a First-Team All Mid East Region spot.
SR Takieya Rouse was also awarded a spot on the top 10 players in the region. Rouse took a spot on the Second-Team All Mid East Region list.
Last, but certainly not least, SR Kia Gillard was recognized as the lone Honorable Mention player for the Region.
Both McNeal and Gillard have already received seasons honors for their performances. McNeal landed on the 2nd team AAC list while Gillard was a member of the All-AAC 3rd team.
Two of the players (Gillard and Rouse) are both seniors. Both players reached the 1,000th career point mark this season for the Lady Rams. Bluefield will look to these three big-time contributors to play key roles this weekend as they head into the NCCAA Regionals in Chattanooga, Tenn.
"The team has been working really hard the last two weeks in practice preparing for Regionals", added head coach MJ Baker.
"Our goal has been to get better everyday at what we do: Play disciplined defense, play aggresively quick, yet under control, compete every possession, play with passion and play together."
Baker also noted their expectations for not only Tennessee but also the "Road to Indiana". "Our expectations are to focus one game at a time, be IN the moment with a purpose, be relentless on both ends of the court, and together fight for our Mission."
The road to that 'mission' began back on November 1st against University of the Cumberlands, and will continue Friday in the Regional semi-finals in Chattanooga.
Bluefield was awarded with the top-seed in the Mid-East Region. As a result, the Lady Rams will get a first-round bye and will await the winner of Covenant College and Tennessee Temple. The semi-final game will be played on Friday, March 9 at 6:00pm.
The winner will advance to the Regional Final on Saturday afternoon with the survivor moving on to represent the Mid-East region at the National Championships in Indiana.
