Lady Rams knock off #12 ranked Montreat on the road 60-51 By Sports Information Department BC | January 11, 2012 | RSS Bluefield College Athletics Sport Information Department Bluefield, Virginia Montreat, North Carolina- Two of the top-ranked teams battled for braggining rights in North Carolina on Wednesday as the visiting Bluefield College Lady Rams pulled away late in the game to win 60-51 for its sixth straight victory. Bluefield held a commanding lead for a majority of the contest including a eight-point lead going into the break 28-20. Offense was a concern for both sides as the teams only combined for 48 first-half points. It was the lowest point total for both teams going into the halftime. Montreat really struggled offensively, shooting only 17 percent from behind the 3-point arc and less than 30 percent from the floor. As a result, Bluefield exploited the struggles and extended their lead into the second half. The Lady Rams had their own struggles too. Montreat spent a majority of the last ten minutes scraping away the BC lead. Keeping Bluefield with the lead the entire game was Takieya Rouse, who went 4-7 from behind arc. With :53 seconds left in the contest, the Lady Cavaliers cut the lead all the way down to three points, 54-51. A few late free-throws by Bluefield pushed the Lady Rams ahead of Montreat though regardless of a valiant effort by the home side. Bluefield shot 11-15 from the FT line, which played a huge role late in the ball game. With the huge win over a Top 15 nationally-ranked team, Bluefield now sits in a great position to makes it way up the national polls as well. Bluefield will get another tough test though before those rankings are released when they host Bryan College on Saturday afternoon in Bluefield.
