Wise, Virginia- The Lady Rams were downed in a doubleheader on Monday afternoon in a tight Game One 3-2, followed up by a struggling peformance as the Lady Cavs completed the series with a 16-0 win over the Lady Rams.

The first game proved to be a tightly contested affair, with neither team able to pull away. The Cavaliers got on the board first with a two-run home run by Ashley Washburn in the opening stanza to take an early lead, but Bluefield rallied back with two runs in the top of the third on a single by Ashley Alley.

UVa-Wise recaptured the lead in the next frame, with Allyssa Zebrowski scoring on a Washburn single to give the Cavs a 3-2 lead. Cavs' Holdway shut down the Lady Rams for the remainder of the game just when it looked like Bluefield had a chance to get the winning run. Bluefield got a runner on 3rd base with no outs, but Wise were able to get out of the 6th inning without allowing a single run.

Megan Meismer took the loss for the Lady Rams in Game One, pitching six innings, allowing three runs and striking out seven batters. Holdway finished with seven innings pitched, two earned runs, one walk and nine strikeouts for UVa-Wise.

Bluefield got great contribution from three different players at the plate who all had multi-hit games: Heather Thomas (2-3), Kourtney McGrady (2-3) and Ashley Alley (2-3).

A great Game 1 for the Lady Rams turned a little worse for the visiting side as they struggled to get the bats going in the second frame of the doubleheader. Kristina Romualdo started the offensive outburst for the Cavs as she went 3-3 with 5 RBI's for Wise.

Ashley Alley took the loss for Bluefield in her first peformance on the mound in the second game. Alley struggled against the hot Cavalier batters, giving up 11 runs (6 earned) in three innings without registering a strikeout.

The Lady Rams recorded four hits on the afternoon in Game 2.

Bluefield moves to 0-3 on the season and will have Tuesday off before heading back on the road for a doubleheader against Patrick Henry in Martinsville, Virginia. First pitch is set to start at 2:00pm EST.
