Lady Rams concede two early goals in 3-1 loss vs. Milligan By Sports Information Department BC | September 19, 2011 | RSS Bluefield College Athletics Sports Information Department Bluefield, Virginia The Bluefield College women's soccer team was defeated 3-1 on Saturday by Milligan College after conceding two early goals at East River Soccer Complex. The match was the first AAC match for both teams in the 2011 season. The Lady Buffs ignited after the opening whistle by scoring two goals in the first seven minutes of action. Martin (Milligan) picked up one of her first two goals off of a well-played free kick outside the box which Rams GK Tracey Muncy had no chance to stop. Just four minutes later, Shawley snagged another Milligan goal to make it a quick 2-0 lead. "It is always tough to go down two goals to none within the first ten minutes of play," added head coach Samanatha Snow. "We work all week long on how we want to play against a team, and then, we give up two 'big five' goals. If it wasn't for a poor first 30 minutes of play, we were in the match." The Lady Rams came out much stronger in the second half by finding space out wide and getting several scoring opportunities. The Lady Rams were only outshot by 1 in the 2nd half, 7-6. Bluefield would find the back of the net, but not until the 88th minute. A nice build-up from the defense to the right wing. The ball was swung into the box where Friere was open to connect on frame. After two attempts on goal, she collected the ball for a third attempt and tallied for Bluefield. Unfortunately, the lone goal was not enough for Bluefield as they fall to conference opponent, Milligan 3-1. The Lady Rams will be back in action on Tuesday in a non-conference matchup against Ferrum College at East River Soccer Complex. Match is set for 6pm.
