Ninety-six Bluefield College seniors will accept diplomas during the school’s 21st Annual Winter Commencement, Saturday, December 15 at 10 a.m. in Harman Chapel, featuring a keynote address from former Virginia governor and U.S. senator-elect Tim Kaine.

Kaine served as governor of Virginia from 2005 to 2009 in the midst of America’s deepest recession in 70 years, but during his tenure he led the state to national recognition as the “best managed state in America” (Governing Magazine), the “Best State for Business” (Forbes.com), and the “best state to raise a child” (Education Week).

Following his term as governor, President Barrack Obama chose Kaine to serve as chair of the Democratic National Committee. After two years in that position, Kaine completed a successful bid for election to the United States Senate, defeating former Virginia governor and onetime U.S. senator George Allen in the November 2012 election.

Kaine’s political career also includes four years as lieutenant governor of Virginia and seven years as a member of the Richmond City Council, including three as mayor of Richmond. A graduate of the University of Missouri and Harvard Law School, he has also worked as an attorney, teacher, and missionary.

In addition to Kaine’s keynote address, Bluefield College’s Winter Commencement will also feature special music selections, a scripture reading, and the presentation of the Wampler Caudill Student Leadership Award to the most outstanding inSPIRE online degree completion student and the Wampler Caudill Distinguished Faculty Award to an outstanding professor in the online degree completion program.

Winter Commencement will also include the presentation of diplomas to 96 BC seniors. Among the candidates for graduation (as of 12-02-12):
