Horst, a 5'6" OH/DS played two years at Hesston College and was named captain both years, she unfortunately was limited in action her sophomore season with an ankle injury. Horst, daughter of Roger and Janet Horst, had 127 kills and 114 digs in her sophomore year at Hesston in only 71 sets. At Smithville High School, Alyssa was a three-year varsity player, was named 1st team WCAL, outstanding offensive player for her team, and was a 2nd team all-district selection her senior year.
"We are pleased that Alyssa is joining the Lady Rams volleyball program, said Bluefield College coach Brian Votaw, who is entering his second season as the head coach at Bluefield. She is a great all-around player and she can help us in many positions at Bluefield College."
"Alyssa comes from an incredible high school program in Ohio which always prepares their players to compete at the next level. We look forward to her all-around contribution to our team while the program at Bluefield College rapidly continues to grow.
In addition to playing volleyball at Smithville High School, Alyssa was involved in her Church Youth Group, was Class President her junior and senior year. She was member of Student Council, National Honor Society and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
"I chose Bluefield College because it is a small Christian school, where I feel I will be able to make a smooth transition. I was also very impressed with the Education department and faculty, which I will be involved with in the next two years. Lastly, I chose Bluefield because I believe that by joining Coach Votaw and the volleyball team, I will be able to grow as a person and volleyball player. I am excited to be a part of Bluefield College and the volleyball program in the fall of 2012."
Bluefield Volleyball continues to bring in a talented 2012 signing class and is excited for more announcements coming in the near future. Be sure to follow Coach Votaw on Twitter @Bluefieldvball and Bluefield Athletics @BluefieldRams.
