Furniss to Throw For Lady Rams May 25, 2009 | RSS Bluefield, Va. -- Danielle Furniss recently signed with Bluefield College at a ceremony held on campus. Danielle Furniss inks with the Lady Rams as her parents, James and Laura (standing), and BC head coach Charolette Shelton (seated, right) look on. Furniss -- a right-handed pitcher from Holy Cross Regional Catholic School in Lynchburg, Va. -- will fit right in to the Lady Rams' rotation and all indications are that she should become an immediate starter along with returnees Lyndsey Barton and Alexa Carter." Danielle is really strong as far as being smart on the mound, knows which pitches to throw and has great variation of speeds and really hits her spots well," said BC head coach Charolette Shelton. "She shouldn't have any trouble adjusting to the college game and will definitely help us out a lot. We expect her to step right in and start for us." Furniss -- who also considered Ferrum (VA) College -- is looking forward to the opportunities which will be presented to her at BC and is already feeling right at home. "I really like the fact that it's a small school and the whole environment here was very appealing," Furniss said. Furniss -- who attended E.C. Glass (VA) High School during her first two years before transferring to HCRCS -- began playing competitive softball at the age of 10 and has been very involved with travel teams the last eight years. Furniss was the team's Most Valuable Player (MVP) as a junior and senior. She also was named to the 2nd Team All-State and 1st Team All-Tournament both seasons at HCRCS and was ranked third in the greater Lynchburg area softball pitcher rankings. While at Bluefield, Furniss hopes to enter the field of nursing or teaching.
