Four Rams and Two Lady Rams Named in Recent NCCAA Polls

Bluefield, VA-- In the newest National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) polls since the Christmas holiday showcased four Bluefield College Ram players and two Lady Rams for their performances on the hardwood.


Rob Wright ranked in two categories in the Mid- East region for the Rams.

Antonia Cataldi ranked in the steals in the NCCAA poll for the Lady Rams.

The recent poll ranked the BC Men's Basketball team (6-10) as 21st overall in the NCCAA, which also ranked the men's team 15th overall in free throws with a 70.4% being made. The poll ranked Dallas Baptist University out of the central region in first place.


The Lady Rams (6-10) received a 14th place overall ranking and ranked as a team in two categories; three- pointers with 32.3% being made and 24th in blocks having a team total of 36 blocks. In first place in the NCCAA poll was Indiana Wesleyan University.


Two Rams were ranked for their individual performance overall in the NCCAA thus far in the season in four categories. Byron Carpenter was ranked 11th in points averaging 19 points a game. He also was ranked in 16th place in both field goals (56%) and rebounds (62 total). Borgia M'bala was also ranked individually in free throws, he was ranked in seventh place averaging 89.5% being made.


The BC teams are part of the Mid- East Region which also ranks players for their performance in the region. Ranked for the Lady Rams is Antonia Cataldi and Katrina Morris with each being in a respective fourth and fifth place in blocks having 12 and 11 for the Lady Rams.


The four BC Rams that had Mid- East rankings were Carpenter, M'Bala, Dmitry Zimin, and Rob Wright. Carpenter was ranked in four different categories he was second place in points, and fourth place in field goals (56%), free throws (80%), and rebounds (62 total).


M'Bala ranked in first place in free throws with 89.5% holding the only first place rank for the team. Dmitry Zimin was fourth place in three- pointers having made 44% of all his shots.


The lone senior on the men's team Rob Wright ranked in two categories in fifth place in free throws (79.7%) and eighth place in steals with 16 thus far in the season.


Both teams will face conference rival Union College on Wednesday, January 12 with a 5:30 pm tip-off for the women and a 7:30 pm tip- off for the men in the BC Dome. They will also travel to play against conference foe Tennessee Wesleyan on Saturday.
