On Friday, former Bluefield College basketball star, Omar "Juice" Reed was taken in the 4th round of the NBA's Developmental League draft by the Austin Torros, an affiliate of the San Antonio Spurs in the National Basketball Association.
A four-year starter at Bluefield, Reed averaged 13.8 ppg and 8.4 rpg while appearing in 128 games in his collegiate career in southwest Virginia. While at Bluefield, he also helped the Rams to an 89-41 overall record, and four consecuitve winning seasons at BC.
Reed, a 6’6 Guard/Forward, was the 63rd pick out of 128 players drafted. He played for Medway Park (England) in 2010-11 where he established himself as one of the league’s best players and scorers, using his versatility to take advantage of different match-ups.
The Torros will look to develop "Juice" as a future NBA star through the NBA's D-League system, a league comprised of 16 teams across the United States split into two conferences (East and West).
