Former Bluefield College men's basketball player Omar "Juice" Reed scored a team-high 26 points and grabbed eight rebounds to help push the Austin Toros past the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, 106-105, on December 10 at State Farm Arena in Hidalgo, Texas.
With a plethora of Toros' players signing NBA training camp contracts this past week, Reed, a fourth round 2011 D-League Draft selection out of Bluefield College, took the opportunity to seize the moment by knocking in 10-of-13 shots from the floor on the night, connecting on 2-of-5 attempts from beyond the arc.
The increased court time is a welcome surprise for Reed, a player who averaged just around eight minutes per game in his first four games with the Toros.
However, in Austin's last two contests, the 6-foot 6-inch, 210-pound combo forward has come off the bench to the tune of 24 minutes per game, putting in a very respectable 20.0-point, 10.0-rebound, 2.5-steal average in those contests.
