Bluefield, Virginia- The Bluefield College Rams football announced earlier this week its first wave of the 2012 signing class who will be asked to compete at the Varsity level right away come the beginning of August at Bluefield.

After a full season of scrimmages and exhibitions against other JV programs, the Rams will knock heads with big-time collegiate programs this coming Fall as Coach Gravier's program plans to compete well in the Mid-South in its first competitive season.

Bluefield has signed 25 of its players within the state of Virginia ranging from nearby Wytheville, Christiansburg and Blacksburg, and all the way to northern and eastern Virginia in Woodbridge and Newport News.

The Rams have picked up top local players across the border in Bluefield, West Virginia with the signings of Drew Simon and Curtis Manns. Not only has Bluefield College made an impression locally, but also in the Roanoke Valley area specifically in Franklin County. Four players have signed on from Franklin to play with the Rams: Travis Pagans, Mason Maples, Chris hart and Lucas Thomason.

The coaching staff may have spent a lot of time within the commonwealth but they also snagged several highly-talented players from a range of different states including Florida, Missouri, Georgia, Ohio and Maryland.

The Rams signed six different players from the Sunshine state to date including three from West Centennial High School in Port St. Lucie, Florida. The three players are Michael Nesmith (WR), Jonathan Poma (FB) and Anthony Herring (ILB).

With a considerable amount of 'returning' players on the Rams side, BC has prepared to compete at the highest level. And as a result, the Rams have signed 42 different players in their initial announcement. Of the 42 signed so far, six of those players play either running back (4) or quarterback (2).

Bluefield College is set to begin its preseason training camp on August 3rd. They will have 22 days to prepare for their home opener against Pikeville (Ky.) on August 25 at Mitchell Stadium.

Cant wait to work with these boys

Joy Millner

I have had the pleasure and the grateful experience of teaching Austin Van Es. He is a singularly impressive young Christian man who has high values and morals, who works hard, and is motivated in every activity he does. I know he will be aa asset to your team and I look forward to coming to some of his games!

Jake

Kinda cool to know Matt Raner and played with him :P

Jeff Sheppard

So, sad to see that there were only two players recruited from a this area by the Rams, since it is so rich in football tradition.

Scott

On the contrary, there is a lot of local talent on the team. I see kids from all over Southwest Virginia on the roster.

can't wait to see the 6'6" qb throw the ball good arm.

6"6 kid great arm and Wells an unstoppable force.

Yea I saw Wells in person today at their 1st practice skills test this morning and he is a beast, he benched 225 21 times!! I also saw this 5'7" CB jump a 9.5 in broad jump and 34.1 in vertical jump not sure if that is good or not but I was impressed!!

Looking to be impressed? Keep an eye on John Galante from Christiansburg High School. I have watched this for 3 years since JV football, where he played every down - he played offence (excellent quarterback, amazing arm), defense, AND kicker on special teams. He is strong as a bull. But I have rarely seen more natural talent and instinct to go with it. He's the whole package. The kid can throw the ball a mile under pressure, kick a sixty yard field goal, and is a defensive monster - last year, he took down 6.5-foot 300 lb. OT's with no problem. How he got looked over by tech recruiters is a mystery, but we sure got lucky at Bluefield with this kid. True playmaker! Can't wait to watch him play again this year.
