Dedicated to providing quality fine arts instruction to the community since 1993, BC’s Fine Arts Community School (FACS) is a community service outreach program that enables local families and students of all ages and interests, including home-schoolers, to explore and study the arts with the guidance of mentors and professionals who have appropriate training and experience.
Twenty classes, lessons and workshops are available on the FACS schedule this spring, including “Pottery,” “Easter Pottery and Crafts,” “Figure Drawing,” “Basic Art,” “Collage for Kids,” “Refrigerator Art,” “Fun Fine Art Friday,” “Circular Patchwork Quilting,” “Memoir Writing,” “Piano Lessons,” “Guitar Lessons,” “Instrument Lessons,” “Violin Lessons,” “Harp Lessons,” “Voice Lessons,” “Preschool Music Time,” “Scottish Highland Dance,” “Scottish Country Dance,” “Acting,” and “Youth Theatre.”
Pottery
Learn hand-building, glaze applications, wheel-turning techniques, and ways to manipulate clay by creative means to form functional and decorative ware.
- Mondays 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Basic Art
Beginning artists will learn techniques for sketching, including smudging, hatching, cross-hatching and stippling, to create still life building design.
- Tuesdays 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
- Beginning January 29 for four weeks

Figure Drawing
Beginning artists will learn proportions of the body, contour and line drawings of the figure, and face proportions to draw from a live model.
- Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Fun Fine Art Fridays
Enjoy a variety of the arts, including theatre, music, painting, and pottery.
- Fridays form 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.
- Beginning February 1 for eight weeks

Preschool Music Time
Singing, dancing, playing instruments and puppets. Perfect for the active, energetic, creative and imaginative preschooler.
- Mondays 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
- Beginning February 4 for five weeks

- Ages: 3-5 (parents welcome)

Acting/Theatre Class
Learn the fundamentals of acting, discover what it's like to work on stage, develop a solid acting technique, experience improvisation, get an introduction to basic stage direction, find out how to work a scene and monologue, and build confidence in the ability to act out scenarios.

Circular Patchwork Quilting Class
Turn a square into a circle, back into a square and finally back into a circle. Bring your sewing machines, rotary cutters, pinking shears, pencil, threads, and fabric.

Easter Pottery Craft Workshop
Two fun days of making ceramic Easter eggs and a basket.

Collage Class for Kids
Explore the art of collage making using a variety of media.

Memoir Writing
This workshop will help participants begin a short memoir and teach writers how to get their memories down on paper in a way that makes them enjoyable to readers.
- Saturdays 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

- Ages: Beginners to adults to senior citizens

Refrigerator Artists
Hands-on enrichment course designed to stimulate learning and creativity through self-expression. Sessions will include painting, self-portraits, and collages.
- Tuesdays from 6 p.m. to 7:15 p.m.
- Beginning April 23 for six weeks, including exhibit during last session
- Tuition: $65
- Ages: 5-7

Youth Theatre
Be a part of the 11th production of Bluefield Youth Theatre in the Disney classic “Aladdin.”
- Rehearsals 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
- Beginning April 26 for four weeks. Production May 23-26.

Scottish Highland Dance Class
Learn the dance moves of the Scottish Highland Dance.
- One hour each week for eight weeks

A non-refundable $25 registration fee is due per student per class when registering for most BC Fine Arts Community School lessons and classes (but not workshops). If registering more than one person within a family, the registration fee is discounted to $15 per person.
In some cases, an additional supplies fee (i.e. art supplies) may be charged in addition to tuition. Tuition and fees are due by the start of instruction and may be mailed and made payable to Bluefield College, FACS, 3000 College Drive, Bluefield, VA 24605.
