Fine Arts Classes for Community Available at Bluefield College

Bluefield College’s Fine Arts Community School has released its schedule of courses for the fall 2010 semester.

Bluefield College’s Fine Arts Community School has released its schedule of courses for the fall 2010 semester.

 

Among the offerings available to the community this fall are courses in music, art, dance, quilting, Chinese history and culture, and Biblical Greek for students of all ages and interests, including home-schoolers.

 

Created for the purpose of enabling children and adults in the area to explore and study the arts with the guidance of mentors who have appropriate training and experience, BC’s Fine Arts Community School (FACS) has been in existence for more than 16 years.

 

Classes in the fall FACS program will begin as early as the latter part of September with others beginning later in the semester.

 

The fall course listings include “Private Instrument Lessons,” “Private Guitar Lessons,” “Private Voice Lessons,” “Private Drum Lessons,” “Private Violin Lessons,” “Beginning Pottery,” “Advanced Pottery,” “Preschool Art,” “Painting and Mixed Media,” “Quilt as You Go,” “Stepping to the Music,” “Beginner Scottish Dance,” “Children’s Scottish Country Dance,” “Scottish Highland Dance,” “Scottish Country Dance,” “Chinese History and Culture,” “Chinese Culture and Language,” and “It’s All Greek to Me."

 

Private Instrument Lessons

Piano, organ, keyboard, saxophone, clarinet, tuba, trombone, trumpet, or flute

30-minute lessons once each week with days and times to be determined

Beginning the week of September 20 for 10 weeks

Tuition: $170 or $85 for five-week session

Ages 5 and up

Private Guitar Lessons

For beginners to intermediate students

30-minute lessons once each week with days and times to be determined

Beginning the week of September 20 for 10 weeks

Tuition: $170 or $85 for five-week session

Ages 8 and up

Private Voice Lessons

For beginners to experienced vocalists

30-minute lessons once each week with days and times to be determined

Private Drum Lessons

For beginners to experienced drummers 30-minute lessons once each week with days and times to be determined

For beginners to experienced students 30-minute lessons once each week with days and times to be determined

Beginning Pottery

Students will study basic pottery techniques while utilizing their own creativity

Tuesdays 6-7 PM

Advanced Pottery

This class will cover throwing and cater to the advanced students’ needs

Preschool Art

Students will explore a variety of mediums, from paint, to clay, to different types of paper

Painting and Mixed Media

Students will discover texture and color in painting and other mixed media

Quilt as You Go

Beginners to experienced students will learn the basics for making and completing a quilt

Stepping to the Music

An exercise class designed for the whole family, from kids to adults

Tuesdays and Thursdays 4-5 PM

Beginner Scottish Highland Dance

Learn the ancient art of Scottish Highland Dance, an expression of both personal and social emotion and danced in sets of eight

Children’s Scottish Country Dance

Children are invited to learn the social dance of Scotland

Intermediate to advanced students are invited to learn the ancient art of Scottish Highland Dance

Intermediate to advanced students are invited to learn the social dance of Scotland

Students will learn the history and culture of China from a visiting professor and students from China

Students will learn the culture and language of China from a visiting professor and students from China

Thursdays 6-7 PM

Beginning September 23 for four weeks

Ages 15 and up

 

It’s All Greek to Me

Learn the alphabet, sounds, vocabulary, and basic parts of speech of Biblical Greek to enrich the experience of reading the New Testament

Thursdays 2-3 PM

Beginning September 23 for 10 weeks

Tuition: $80

Ages 12 and up
