The last of the kids summer camps and classes, featuring a variety of fun and educational summer activities for local youth, have been slated at Bluefield College as part of its Fine Arts Community School.

Dedicated to providing quality fine arts instruction to the community since 1993, BC’s Fine Arts Community School (FACS) is a community service outreach program that enables local families and students of all ages and interests, including home-schoolers, to explore and study the arts with the guidance of mentors and professionals who have appropriate training and experience.

Among the final summer 2017 camps and classes are a Cartoonist Camp, Musical Theatre Performance Camp, Morning Sunrise Paint Night, Team Development Workshop, Dragon Fly Lagoon Paint Night, Private Writing Lessons, and Private Music Lessons, all detailed below in chronological order.

Cartoonist Camp
Award winning cartoonist and illustrator Christopher Epling will teach students how to tell a story using characters and combine creative writing with visual arts.
· Dates: July 10-14
· Times: 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
· Ages: 10-18
· Cost: $75 plus $25 registration fee
· Instructor: Christopher Epling

Musical Theatre Performance Camp
Explore the processes of preparing for a musical theatre audition all the way to culminating a performance. Work on diction, projection, breath support, singing, characterization, and movement. Conclude with a full-scale performance.
· Dates: July 10-14
· Times: 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
· Ages: 6-12
· Cost: $100 plus $25 registration fee

Morning Sunrise Paint Night
Enjoy a fun paint night with artist Marianne Jackson. Create your own work of art to take home. Painting supplies provided. No art experience needed.
· Date: July 21
· Time: 6:30 p.m.
· Ages: All ages
· Cost: $30
· Instructor: Marianne Jackson

Team Development Workshop
Learn applicable strategies for building high performing teams that work well together and deliver long term results. Improve collaboration, communication, and trust. Beneficial to employees from any industry.
· Dates: July 27-28
· Times: 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
· Ages: Adults
· Cost: $75 plus $25 registration fee
· Instructor: David Hite

Dragon Fly Lagoon Paint Night
Enjoy a fun paint night with artist Marianne Jackson. Create your own work of art to take home. Painting supplies provided. No art experience needed.
· Date: August 18
· Time: 6:30 p.m.
· Ages: All ages
· Cost: $30
· Instructor: Marianne Jackson

Private Writing Lessons
Private writing lessons with an experienced writing coach and English instructor are now available for all ages and levels of skill. From help with standard grammar
or writing a research paper to a great letter to the editor or a short story or novel.
· Days and times determined with instructor
· Ages: All ages
· Cost: $65 (three lessons), $100 (five lessons), or $175 (10 lessons) plus $25 registration fee

Private Music Lessons
Private music lessons available for all levels of skill in piano, voice, flute, banjo and mandolin. Beginning and advanced students, including adults, are encouraged to participate.
· Days and times determined with instructor
· Ages: All ages
· Cost: $110 (five lessons) or $190 (10 lessons) plus $25 registration fee
· Instructor: Dr. Alexa Schlimmer (piano and voice), Linda Flowers (flute), and Ron Mullennex (banjo and mandolin)

All students must pre-register. A $25 non-refundable registration fee is due per student when registering for multiple day lessons, classes, or camps. If registering more than one person within a family, the registration fee is discounted to $15 per person.

In some cases, an additional supplies fee (i.e. art supplies) may be charged in addition to tuition. Tuition and fees are due by the start of instruction and may be mailed and made payable to Bluefield College, FACS, 3000 College Avenue, Bluefield, VA 24605. Payment plans are available.
