Ferrum Skates by the Lady Rams September 20, 2010 | RSS Melissa Hubert tied the game with her goal assisted by Grace Drake. Ferrum, VA—A penalty kick in the 81st minute of play, converted by Casey Johnson, was enough to lift FerrumCollege (5-1) to a 2-1 non- conference women's soccer win over Bluefield College Friday night at Penn- Roediger Field. The Lady Rams played tough in front of a 200+ crowd and although controlled the second half, couldn't find the finishing goal. Stephanie Marshall gave Ferrum a 1-0 halftime lead with an unassisted goal at 20:48. Freshman midfielder Melissa Hubbert tied the match with a goal in the 57th minute of play, with an assist from Grace Drake. Ferrum's Kara Pegram was taken down inside the box by Bluefield goalkeeper Jackie Gonzalez at the 80:45 mark. Johnson converted the PK to put Ferrum on top for good and Panther eked out the win. Gonzalez made nine saves in the net for Bluefield (2-5-1), while Katie Hodkinson made one save for Ferrum. The Panthers out- shot Bluefield 16-2 and closed with a 6-0 edge in corner kicks. The Lady Rams will be back at home this week taking on NC Wesleyan Wednesday night at 5:00 pm and Saturday at 2:00 pm versus Reinhardt University.
