Bluefield College’s Fine Arts Community School has released its schedule of courses for the fall 2017 semester.

Dedicated to providing quality fine arts instruction to the community since 1993, BC’s Fine Arts Community School (FACS) is a community service outreach program that enables local families and students of all ages and interests, including home-schoolers, to explore and study the arts with the guidance of mentors and professionals who have appropriate training and experience.

Nearly 20 classes, workshops and lessons are available on the FACS schedule this fall, including LadySafe Self Defense, Screenwriting, Beginning Sewing, Introduction to Grant Writing, Art Therapy, Beginning Calligraphy, Illustration and Cartooning, Beginning Photography, Magic, Wheel-thrown Pottery, Youth Theatre, First Steps in Music, Pre-school Dance, Beginning/Intermediate/Advanced Dance (for ballet, jazz/musical theatre, hip-hop and contemporary/modern), and private lessons in music, dance and writing, all detailed below in chronological order.

LadySafe Self Defense Workshop
Date: Friday, September 8
Times: 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Tuition: $25

Screenwriting Classes
Dates: September 11 to October 9
Times: Mondays 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Tuition: $50 plus $25 registration fee
Ages: adults

Pre-school Dance Classes
Dates: September 11 to November 13, plus dress rehearsal and recital
Times: Mondays 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Tuition: $100 plus a $25 registration fee

Beginning/Intermediate/Advanced Dance Classes
Dates: September 11 to November 13, plus dress rehearsal and recital
Times: Mondays 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. (for ballet), 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. (for jazz/musical theatre), 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. (for hip-hop), and 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. (for contemporary/modern)
Tuition: $60 per class or $200 for all four classes, plus a $25 registration fee

Times: Mondays 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Tuition: $65 plus $25 registration fee

Times: Mondays 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Bluefield Youth Theatre Presents Elf the Musical
Dates: Rehearsals beginning on or around October 23
Times: Mondays through Fridays 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Tuition: $150 plus a $25 registration fee

Magic Workshop and Show

A $25 non-refundable registration fee and is due per student per class when registering for most BC Fine Arts Community School lessons and classes (but not workshops). If registering more than one person within a family, the registration fee is discounted to $15 per person.

In some cases, an additional supplies fee (i.e. art supplies) may be charged in addition to tuition. Tuition and fees are due by the start of instruction and may be mailed and made payable to Bluefield College, FACS, 3000 College Avenue, Bluefield, VA 24605. Payment plans are available.
