Degree Completion Students Celebrate Culmination of Studies with Charity Project

Eleven students in the Management 41 cohort of Bluefield College's inSpire degree completion program in Norfolk, Virginia, recently completed all the requirements of their studies toward a bachelor's degree. While the culmination of their studies was significant, how they got there and how they decided to celebrate was what turned out to be "extraordinary."

February 11, 2010

"On January 22, 2009 the 11 extraordinary men of Management 41 started our program in Norfolk," said BC's Al Muire, assistant professor of management and leadership. "They decided early to stick together to complete the program. Their motto became, 'Together, we finished what we started!'"

En route to their bachelor's degree, the men conducted a SWOT Analysis to review the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats to Bluefield College in the Tidewater area of Virginia. Even before they finished, several made commitments to pursue graduate degrees and all made pledges to continue to support Bluefield College as active members of the Alumni Association.

To celebrate their BC degrees, the group organized a charity project to leave more than just their mark on Bluefield College. They raised $440 to present to the American Red Cross for relief efforts for the victims of the recent earthquake in Haiti.

"They are their motto," Muire added.
