Cheznee Daily signs a letter of intent to play volleyball at Bluefield College. She is joined by Lady Rams' head coach Jaime Bowman (seated, left) and Cheznee's parents (Gayle and Tom). |
"I chose Bluefield College because I like the small environment and my plans were to go out of state," Daily said. "The mountains will be fun -- all nice and cold."
"The main reason I chose Bluefield is because of the volleyball program. Since the first time I came up, the girls on the team couldn't have been nicer and we got along great plus Coach Bowman was amazing."
Nobody will ever question Daily's drive and determination to perform at the highest level and she is well-prepared for the challenges that lie ahead.
"My strengths are I’m very quick, have a good feel for the game, and communicate well on the court," Daily said. "I think the transition to college will be awesome and give me a challenge, which is what I want. That competitiveness will always be there."
"I feel that we [BC] can have a successful team and that I can contribute."
Daily, who began playing competitive volleyball in the seventh grade, has received the team Most Valuable Player (MVP) award along with numerous coaches' awards while with the Blue Devils.
"Cheznee is a leader and has a great work ethic," said Lady Rams' head coach Jaime Bowman.
Bluefield must find a replacement for Lisa Reale, who graduated and was the team's primary setter the last three years. There will be open competition for the starting job and Daily looks to be the frontrunner at this stage.
"I'm looking forward to working with Cheznee," Bowman said. "She is a phenomenal athlete and can place the ball anywhere."
Bowman, who will be entering her third season at the helm this fall, likes what she has seen so far this offseason and is encouraged by what looks to be a promising nucleus of talent.
"We have a very young team, but at the same time, have a lot to work with," Bowman said. "We have a great group of girls who have the right attitude and will play together as a unit. The future is definitely looking bright for our program."
"I want to thank Ms. [Kathy] Shott (admissions counselor) for believing in me during the process of signing," Daily said. "She really kept me up to date and has helped make this a smooth transition."
While at BC, Daily plans to major in physical education and minor in coaching.
