Celebrate Shakespeare with Bluefield College Tour of London
As part of its longstanding tradition of offering study trips abroad, Bluefield College will sponsor an international tour of Greater London, England, in the spring of 2010, open to the public and part of the Shakespeare Birthday Festival.
September 29, 2009
Students, faculty, staff, alumni, and even friends from the community are invited to join the college for the "Happy Birthday Shakespeare Tour," April 18-25, 2010.
Born April 23, 1564 and dying on his 52nd birthday, April 23, 1616, William Shakespeare is considered to be the world's greatest playwright, and his hometown of Stratford is celebrating his life and contributions to the arts with the Shakespeare Birthday Festival, a unique event that brings together the local community, professional and amateur performers and artists, and ambassadors from around the world in a vibrant celebration of the life and works of Stratford's favorite son.
Bluefield College and its guests will join the international celebration during the weeklong tour of Greater London. BC's Shakespeare tour, April 18-25, will include both walking and guided sightseeing tours of London, the Globe Theatre replica, Bath, and Stratford.
Participants will also visit Oxford and the Blenheim Palace. In addition, the BC tourists will be offered the opportunity to watch a play in London and/or Stratford. The highlight of the weeklong excursion will be Shakespeare's Birthday Festival on April 23, which will feature, among other activities, live music, circus entertainers, poetry readings, and of course, theatrical performances.
Applications for Bluefield College's London trip are now being accepted. For more information, contact Dr. Wayne Massey, director of International Programs, by phone at 276-326-4275 or by e-mail at .
