Bluefield, Va. -- Four Bluefield College players (Whitney Newberry, Courtney Upham, Felicia Marmo, Brittany Williams) put the finishing touches on their home collegiate softball careers on a sunny Thursday afternoon at Graham Recreation Park. However, they wouldn't go out on a winning note as AAC rival Tennessee Wesleyan swept the Lady Rams by scores of 14-0 and 3-1.

In the first contest, the Lady Bulldogs took a 5-0 lead into the fourth inning before the floodgates were burst wide open.

The first nine batters reached base for TWC, and before all was said and done, the visitors held a 14-0 lead, which wound up being the final after five innings of play.

Kanissa Webb drove in five runs for the Lady Bulldogs, while Sunni Jackson batted 3-for-3.

Three more players added two hits apiece.

Brittany Fox gained the win on the mound as she tossed five innings of three-hit ball and struck out eight batters.

For Bluefield, Lyndsey Barton suffered the loss but still managed to have a 140-pitch complete game effort.

Fox returned to the hill for the second game and picked up where she left off.

She went the full seven innings, allowing one run on one hit, fanning nine and walking none.

TWC (20-22, 8-8 AAC) scored one run in the first and manufactured two more in the second, which proved to be all the insurance they would need.

Alexa Carter was solid on the mound for the Lady Rams and kept BC in the game until the final at-bat.

She went seven innings strong, giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits while recording five strikeouts.

Bluefield now awaits its Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) tournament pairing. The double-elimination tournament runs from April 28th-May 1st in Kingsport, Tenn.
