Bluefield College and Ohio State Lima each took a win Tuesday afternoon to split the non-conference matchup at Bowen Field. Lima scored at least a run in six of the seven innings in game one en route to a 7-2 win, while the Rams scored the go-ahead run in the fifth inning to earn the 3-2 win in the series finale.
Bluefield claimed the series, 2-1, and moves to 10-13 overall after the Tuesday afternoon split.
Game 1: Lima 7, Bluefield 2
Three singles in the opening frame started Lima with a 1-0 advantage. Left fielder Sam Altenbach singled with one out, then advanced and scored on ensuing singles from centerfielder Derrick Pease and designated hitter Tyler Blumentritt. Bluefield starting pitcher Anthony Garza struck out Cody Dukes to end the Barons’ threat with two on.
Bluefield wasted no time matching the visitors. Designated hitter Zach Russell-Myers singled to open the bottom half of the first, while Kahlin Villines followed with a two-base knock to square the game, 1-1.
After Lima posted a single run in the top of the third, the Rams tied the ballgame once again. Russell-Myers reached on an error and came all the way around to score on another double from Villines.
However, the Barons plated single runs in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings, along with a pair of tallies in the sixth, as they claimed the 7-2 victory.
Brandon Scott earned the complete game win for Lima, allowing just five hits. Anthony Garza (1-1) took the loss for Bluefield, giving up four earned runs in six innings of work.
Game 2: Bluefield 3, Lima 2
Bluefield tallied the opening score in game two, plating one in the bottom of the second. Designated hitter Trevor Martin laced a one-out double to left field. Martin stole third and advanced home as the pick-off throw from catcher Ryne Jerome went down the left field line.
Lima answered quickly by posting two runs in the top of the third.
The Rams pulled even in the fourth as Jacob Wright singled to center to start the frame. A passed ball advanced Wright to second, while a Martin single tied the game, 2-2.
After starting pitcher Justin Wike struck out the side, the Bluefield jumped ahead once again in the bottom half of the fifth.
Kaleb Long started the inning with a single. Will Simpson came on as the courtesy runner, and stole a pair of bases to advance to third. A warning track sacrifice fly from Villines scored Simpson as the go-ahead run.

Wike (1-0) earned his first career win for the Rams, pitching five innings, striking out six and only allowing two hits. Pease took the loss for Lima in game two, going five innings as well.
