Bluefield, Virginia- The Bluefield College Athletics department is proud to announce football's 2012 regular season schedule for its first full season of competition since 1941.

The Rams will play an 11-game schedule includling six home and five away contests during the regular season. Ten of the eleven games will be conference games, while its 11th game will actually be against a league opponent but will not count towards its conference record.

The schedule starts with two home games to kick-off the season. The season opener will be against Pikeville (Ky.) on either August 23 or 25th at 6:00pm. Time/Date to be available shortly.

The second game will be the Rams first Mid-South Conference game of the year against one of the NAIA's most winningest college football programs in the country, Georgetown College at 6:00pm. In 2011, Georgetown went 12-1 before losing in the NAIA National Semi-finals.

After opening the season at home, the Rams will travel the following weekend on September 9th to play Kentucky Christian. The team will look to gain its first road victory against a KCC program who has gone 4-27 over the past three seasons.

The Mid-South Conference is looked at as one of NAIA's strongest football conferences in the nation. Bluefield will look to make an immediate impact at the highest level.

Coach Gravier and his staff are eager to be a part of the transition into a different conference for Bluefield Football and Bluefield College Athletics. "We’re very excited to be a part of such a strong football conference as the Mid-South Conference.  When you look at the history of the NAIA playoffs, the MSC is always well represented", added Gravier.

"We want to model that in our program, and the only way you can do that is to play those teams and learn from them.  The opportunity and challenge to play some of the best NAIA football programs in the country every week is going to allow us to attract top recruits and build a program that will represent Bluefield College and the Mid-South Conference well."

The Rams will host Faulkner following its road game in Kentucky, before heading out on the road again for two consecutive road game against Bethel, Tenn (9/22) and Union, Ky. (9/29) to close out the month of September.

Coach Gravier's side will return home at the beginning of October for a highly-anticipated matchup versus UVA-Wise on October 6 at 6:00pm . UVA-Wise is Bluefield's closest opponent in relation to distance and could become a friendly rivalry overnight.

After hosting the Cavs, Bluefield will pack the bus and make a long journey for its longest road trip of the season on October 13. The Rams will travel to Jackson, Miss. to compete against Belhaven University. The Blazers went 3-3 in conference last season, while finishing a game below .500 overall (5-6).

The week after a long road trip, Bluefield will enjoy a 'bye week' over the October 20th weekend. Following its bye week, the Rams will host Lindsey Wilson College (Ky.) during Homecoming Weekend at Bluefield College. The game will be on Saturday at 1:00pm at Mitchell Stadium. LWC finished in second place last season in the Mid-South with a 7-3 overall record.

For the month of November, the Rams will finish the season with two final Mid-South conference games with one on the road at Cumberland University (11/3) and the final regular season game to be at home against Campbellsville on November 10 at 1:00pm.

All home games will be played just behind main campus of Bluefield College at the beautiful Mitchell Stadium. The stadium holds up to 11,000 fans and includes a state-of-the-art artificial turf surface recently installed in 2008.

Much more information will be available as the season comes closer to its starting date including fan season passes, tailgating experiences, Homecoming Weekend, sports information and media availablities (live video streaming, roster, radio, etc) and much more.

I am sure that football will bring a new group of students to Blurfield, whom would not have possibly concidered attending it in the past. It already has a high level of education, at a reasonable price for the student, but the football program will raise the excitement on the campus,(that left it during the 1940s),to a new level."Go Rams,"
