The Rams lost in OT on Wednesday 97-89 in a tough environment as its Bluefield's third year in a row they have lost to the Cavaliers in extra time. The Rams started off well and led at the break by four points, 42-38. The Cavaliers did a nice job on the defensive end to eliminate Marion's ability to get decent shot opportunities off, with just ten attempts (well below his average). While the Rams didn't get a great output by Marion, other players helped contribute to keeping the game a close one while struggling from the field. With some clutch free throws down the stretch, Bluefield got the game into extra minutes. But Montreat took over in the OT period with help from LaBris Adams (Montreat). The Cavalier guard led all scorers with 26 points. More importantly, the Rams struggled to eliminate his penetration in the lanes, resulting in Adam's 14-14 from the FT line. The Rams were outscored 17-9 in the OT frame, even though they started the period with two straight buckets. "The game was a hard fought battle and we didn't make plays down the stretch", added Coach Morgan. "They played a very good game and we let them out-hustle us all night." Despite the loss, Bluefield will bounce back to face a scrappy Bryan College team on Saturday at home in Bluefield with a first-place spot still intact. High Scorers for Bluefield: Carpenter (22), Wilson (21), Marion (11) and Board (11).
