The Bluefield women’s basketball team dropped its third conference game in a row, losing 70-55 at Union College tonight.

The Lady Rams (12-8) dropped to 6-5 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference.

Union opened the game on a 16-3 run, but the Lady Rams answered with three transition layups to cut the deficit to seven. However, Union heated up behind the three-point line and went on another run, opening up a 28-13 lead nearing halftime.

Takieya Rouse helped keep the Lady Rams in the game late in the first half, finding success driving up the left side of the lane to the basket, but 13-first half turnovers by Bluefield and Union’s outside shooting kept the Lady Rams from closing the gap.

Union hit seven three-point shots in the first half from six different players and took a 41-26 lead into the break.

The Lady Bulldogs opened the second half with a quick 10-2 run in the first two minutes, pulling ahead 51-28.

Bluefield’s defense slowed down Union’s defense for much of the second half, but they Lady Rams were unable to put solidify a run and could not close the gap.

Rouse led the Lady Rams with 16 points. Janee Simmons finished with 11 points.

The Lady Rams will look to bounce back to get a conference victory after now losing three-straight conference games when they host Point University on Saturday at 1:00pm EST.
