Ten outstanding teacher education students from Bluefield College were recently inducted into the local chapter of Phi Delta Kappa, a premier professional association for educators.

Founded in 1906, Phi Delta Kappa (PDK) is dedicated to supporting public schools through its extensive network of PDK chapters, like the one in Bluefield. Today, as it has for the past century, PDK strives to prepare the next generation of educators as well as to serve the current education community, including the students from Bluefield College.

Among the BC students inducted into PDK during the recent formal ceremony were Jennifer Brewster of Bluefield, VA; Marie Chappelear of Bassett, VA; Sarah Cordill of Princeton, WV; Kathryn Geisert of Gloucester, VA; Sara Hale of Bluefield, VA; Keilah Ramey of Luray, VA; Lindsey Sebring of Chesapeake, VA; Johnathan Shannon of Cedarville, VA; Rhonda Stroupe of Bluefield, VA; and Ben Thurman of Moneta, VA.

As members of Phi Delta Kappa, the Bluefield College students will be afforded the opportunity to attend or even present at professional development seminars and conferences, participate in international study trips, and receive student teaching awards, graduate fellowships, and other grants and scholarships.

Phi Delta Kappa prides itself on being an education association that advocates for quality public education as the essential component to the development and maintenance of a democratic way of life. Fulfilling its mission through leadership, research, and service in education, PDK serves all levels of educators and the education community, including practicing teachers, administrators, college educators, student teachers, like those from Bluefield College, and parents and citizens concerned about education.

Other advantages to membership include networking, mentoring, and access to professional services, innovative training programs, and visionary leadership.
