Bluefield College Schedules Summer Sports Camps

Bluefield College will host six summer sports camps in June and July for boys basketball, girls basketball, and girls soccer. The first of the six summer sports camps will be a three-day girls basketball camp, Wednesday, June 17 through Friday, June 19 in the Dome Gymnasium for girls in grades 7-12

This first of three girls hoop camps will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day and is designed for players who are "highly motivated to reach their maximum potential." Hosted by BC's head women's basketball coach Steve Hardin, his staff, and players, the high potential camp will feature college-like workouts and drills and instruction in fundamentals, footwork, training, and competition.

    The high-energy girls basketball camp will also feature individual instruction and workouts, as well as free t-shirts.

    The second of the six summer sports camps will be a girls soccer camp, Wednesday, June 24 through Friday, June 26 at East River Soccer Complex for girls in grades K-12.

    Hosted by BC women's soccer coach Joe Wehrle and Thiel (PA) College women's soccer coach Andy Hoggarth, the girls soccer camp will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day and will feature instruction in fundamentals, agility, plyometrics, footwork, crossing, finishing, and set plays, as well as training in techniques for creating space, defending as a team, and possession play. The girls soccer camp participants will also get free t-shirts.

    The third BC sports camp of the summer will be a boys basketball camp, Monday, June 29 through Friday, July 3 in the Dome Gymnasium for boys of all ages.

    The boys basketball camp, the first of two for the summer, will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day and will feature instruction in fundamentals, footwork, competition, motivation, teamwork, enthusiasm, and physical fitness.

    BC men's basketball head coach Jason Gillespie, his staff, and current and former players will host the camp, which will also feature guest speakers, devotions, motivational handouts, prizes, concessions, and free camp t-shirts.

    The fourth summer sports camp will be a second girls basketball camp, Monday, July 13 through Friday, July 17 in the Dome Gymnasium for girls ages 5-17.

    Hosted by Coach Hardin and his staff, this girls basketball camp will feature lessons in competition, workout routines, training, and teamwork. While other proficiencies will be addressed, the camp is designed specifically to improve ball handling and offensive and defensive skills.

    This girls basketball camp will also run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day and will feature an awards program on Friday and free camp t-shirts.

    The fifth summer sports camp will be a third and final girls basketball camp, Monday, July 20 through Friday, July 24 in the Dome Gymnasium for girls ages 5-17.

    While other proficiencies will be addressed, this camp is designed specifically to improve shooting skills. Coach Hardin and his staff will work with participants on shooting form, pocket shooting, free throw technique, and shooting off the dribble.

    This girls basketball camp will also run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day and will feature an awards program on Friday and free camp t-shirts.

    And, the sixth and final BC sports camp of the summer will be a boys basketball camp, Monday, July 27 through Friday, July 31 in the Dome Gymnasium for boys of all ages.

    The final boys basketball camp will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day and will again feature instruction in fundamentals, footwork, competition, motivation, teamwork, enthusiasm, and physical fitness.

    Coach Gillespie, his staff, and current and former players will host the second boys camp, which will again feature guest speakers, devotions, motivational handouts, prizes, concessions, and free camp t-shirts.
