Bluefield College will kick off another exciting academic year when classes begin for the fall 2009 semester, Tuesday, August 25.
In addition to a number of challenging study opportunities for students, the school will host cookouts, socials, coffeehouses, competitions, and a variety of other Welcome Week activities designed to aid students in the transition from summer fun to fall academics.
Among the study opportunities available to traditional students this fall are two new programs in instrumental music and instrumental music education, along with recently adopted programs in forensic science and graphic communication. These new options bring BC's total number of traditional majors offered to 22, including the more popular programs in business, teacher education, criminal justice, and exercise science.
Registration for traditional students is now an online process -- no more long lines and registration stations. Students may register for classes by accessing the MyBC portal. If you're a new student or just not sure how to register online, e-mail the Registrar's Office.
In addition to traditional student offerings, the college will launch a host of new class starts across Virginia this fall for students in the adult degree-completion program. Throughout the month of September, from Southwest to Tidewater Virginia or Southside to Northern Virginia, adult students can enroll in courses to complete their bachelor's degree in three majors of study, including management and leadership, criminal justice, and behavioral science.
For start dates, class sites or more information about BC's convenient, accelerated statewide adult degree-completion program, prospects can visit the Bluefield College web site at bluefield.edu/programs or e-mail the Admissions Office.
High school seniors can also enroll in courses at Bluefield College this fall through the school's Challenge 2009 program. This special class option, open to seniors who meet specific academic criteria, allows high school students to get a head start on their college career by taking a college course while still attending high school.
As part of the start of the new academic year, the college will host a number of Welcome Week activities for both students and the community. Open to the public at-large, the Welcome Week events include:
-- Cookout and Sand Volleyball Competition, Tuesday, August 25, 5 p.m. at the sand volleyball courts on campus
-- Welcome Home College Town Social, Thursday, August 27, hosted by the Town of Bluefield in downtown Bluefield and featuring inflatable games and a coffeehouse with musical comedians Bean and Bailey, set for 7 p.m.
