For the first time in 2013, the Rams will have four sports programs competing on the same weekend, as men’s and women’s basketball, softball and baseball all compete on the road.
Both basketball programs face their final regular-season road trips. Thursday evening, the Rams take on St. Catharine, while the weekend concludes against Georgetown on Saturday afternoon.
The women’s basketball team (14-10, 7-9 MSC) will face a pair of tough challenges in Kentucky. St. Catharine (2 p.m.) is currently receiving votes in the NAIA National Poll, while Georgetown holds the No. 19 ranking. However, the Rams knocked off both teams earlier in the season.

In their 83-73 win over then No. 6 Georgetown (Nov. 15), Bluefield was led by Teqa McNeal with her season-high 32 points, shooting at a 50% clip (12-24). Ashley White also filled the basket for the Rams, scoring 26 points on 12-for-22 shooting. Janee Simmons ripped down a game-high 12 rebounds in the contest and also contributed 13 points.
Monique Robson then led the Rams over St. Catharine (Nov. 17), 64-50, posting a game-high 18 points. McNeal and Simmons contributed 14 and 12 points, respectively.
The men’s basketball squad (8-15, 3-13 MSC) also faced success against Georgetown and St. Catharine early in the season, upending both opponents. The Rams knocked off then No. 3 Georgetown (Nov. 15), 96-89, before closing the weekend with an 84-74 victory over St. Catharine.
Meanwhile, softball begins its 2013 slate on Friday evening, playing a doubleheader against Covenant College beginning at 5 p.m. The pair of evening games will be contested at Warner Park in Chattanooga, Tenn. The games serve as both teams’ season openers.
The following day, the Rams take on Bryan in Dayton, Tenn. The first game is slated for 1 p.m. with the second following immediately after. Bryan is 2-2 this season and is also slated to face Lee University on Friday, prior to hosting the Rams Saturday afternoon.
Baseball, originally scheduled to face North Greenville in Tigersville, S.C. has now cancelled its game, due to the forecasted weather this weekend.
