BC to Offer Workshops in Gardening and More

Learn gardening, quilting, forensics, or writing in a BC workshop.

WVVA-TV meteorologist Corey Henderson, who will lead BC's spring Saturday workshop on gardening.

Bluefield College will offer a variety of Saturday workshops for the community this spring in gardening, quilting, forensics, writing, and bow making.

 

The workshops will be offered through BC's Fine Arts Community School, in existence for more than 16 years to enable local families and students of all ages and interests, including home-schoolers, to explore and study the arts and other topics and trades of interest with the guidance of mentors who have appropriate training and experience.

 

As part of the classes and instruction this spring, the school will offer eight one-day workshops in "Building a Better Vegetable Garden," "Quilting," "The Basics of Growing Herbs," "Butterfly Gardening," "Forensic Science," "Writing for Young Writers," "Writing for Adults," and "Wreath and Bow Making."

 

Building a Better Vegetable Garden Workshop

For beginning or experienced gardeners who want to learn how to improve soil, start seeds, and grow the best vegetables.

Quilting Workshop

Learn the basics for making and completing a quilt in six hours.

Basics of Growing Herbs

Butterfly Gardening: How to Attract Flying Flowers to Your Garden

Learn the lifecycle of the butterfly and host and nectar plants, and take home a garden plan, host plant, and plant list.

Forensic Science Workshop

Be part of a team collecting and analyzing evidence to solve a crime in this thrilling crime scene investigation.

Writing Workshop for Young Writers

Hear a writer and storyteller read Appalachian poetry and prompt students to find their poetic Appalachian voice, and learn from a retired English professor and writer a step-by-step process for writing flash fiction.

Writing Workshop for Adults

Explore with a writer and storyteller your place in the mountains through discussion and creative writing, and learn from a retired English professor and writer how to create different forms of poetry.

Wreath and Bow Making Workshop
