Bluefield, VA-- The BC men's soccer team scored early and shot often in their 4-0 victory against Pikeville College on Thursday evening.
Despite an unusual 20 minute delay for a light failure in the second half, the Rams stayed on course and kept the shut-out for the second game in a row. Nago Mbengue opened the scoring in the first minute of the game after a nice buildup started by junior midfielder Timmy Michaels and sophomore defender Joey Waltz.
Five minutes later Mbengue returned the favor by setting up Michaels on a nice pass through the middle for his first goal of the season.
Freshman Jake Summer tallied his team leading third goal of the season on a 25 yard shot into the side net past Pikeville goalkeeper Sheldon Thomas. After the brief delay early in the second half, Bluefield continued to create opportunities and Timmy Michaels scored his second goal of the game to give BC a 4-0 lead.
Bluefield outshot Pikeville 37-3, and held the advantage of 6-0 on corner kicks. Junior goalkeepers Jeff Field and Zach Breland held the shutout for the Rams. Bluefield now moves to 3-1 on the season.
The Rams will be back in action at home on Saturday September 11 at 3:30 pm against Bethany College.
