BC Lady Rams Volleyball Team 'Digs Pink' for Breast Cancer Awareness
Bluefield College's school colors are red, blue and white, but on Tuesday, October 27, the BC women's volleyball team will be wearing pink as part of a Dig Pink Breast Cancer Awareness Rally and National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Sponsored by the Side-Out Foundation, Dig Pink Rallies are designed to increase awareness of the importance of early breast cancer detection. Through hundreds of sporting events nationwide throughout the month of October, Dig Pink Rallies also raise funds to help the Side-Out Foundation in its efforts to eradicate the disease.
Bluefield College's women's volleyball team will join the cause with a Dig Pink Rally during its October 27 match against Milligan College at 6:15 p.m. in the Dome Gymnasium.
The Lady Rams will be donning pink as part of their uniform for the game. Fans attending the match are encouraged to wear pink, as well, as a display of support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
"We'd like for everyone in attendance to wear pink," said Jaime Bowman, head coach for the BC women's volleyball team. "If you plan on attending, please support the cause by wearing something pink."
Local residents are encouraged to not only attend and wear pink for the Dig Pink Rally, but also participate in the breast cancer awareness activities, particularly those who have been directly affected by the disease.
"We want to make this a very special event with as much community involvement as possible," said Jaime Bowman, head coach for the women's volleyball team. "If anyone is fighting breast cancer or has a family member or friend who is a survivor or a victim of the disease, we want to recognize them."
During the Dink Pink Rally, the Lady Rams volleyball team will recognize women who have lost their lives to breast cancer and those who have survived or are still battling the disease. Area residents are encouraged to submit names to be honored by contacting the Lady Rams volleyball team in advance by phone at 276.326.4251 or by e-mail at
Admission for the BC Dig Pink Rally will be $3 at the door, where guests may also make additional donations. All proceeds from the event will go to the Side-Out Foundation.
Fans who are unable to attend the October 27 match can still support the BC cause with an online gift made through the Lady Rams volleyball web site at bluefield.edu/volleyball.
