The Bluefield College womens volleyball team has signed another recruit for the 2012 season with the addition of Steffi Dutton, who has decided to further her education at Bluefield College and continue her volleyball career with the Lady Rams.
Dutton, a 5-foot-1 libero from Badin, North Carolina, was an all-conference player her last three years and was all county player her junior and senior year at Albemarle High School. Dutton, daughter of Steve and Melody Dutton, was a four-year starting libero and senior year team captain at Albemarle. For her career, Steffi had 1204 digs and 133 aces to go with 19 kills.
"We are excited that Steffi is joining the Lady Rams volleyball program, said Bluefield College coach Brian Votaw, who is entering his second season as the head coach at Bluefield. She is outstanding on defense and will do whatever it takes to dig a ball near her. Steffi is an incredible leader on and off the court and we are pleased to have Steffi on our team for 2012."
"After watching Steffi practice with our team on campus, it didn't take long for me to see that Steffi was a player that we wanted here at Bluefield College. I was impressed with how she ran the back court in just a matter of minutes. She has prepared herself well by playing at a good high school under the direction of Coach Joanne McConlogue and with excellent clubs along the way. Steffi is an extremely talented young lady in many ways and we are glad to be able to help further her academic, spiritual and athletic career here at Bluefield.
In addition to playing volleyball at Albemarle High School, Dutton was Wendy's Heisman school representative, scholar athlete, and the volleyball, basketball and soccer captain. She also is the editor in chief of the yearbook and member of the Spanish, beta, and link crew club. She was member of student council and also the treasure of the student body. Steffi also volunteers for Children's Church and Vacation Bible School at her Church.
"I chose Bluefield College because after my recruit trip and meeting with the team and Coach Votaw, I felt like it was a perfect fit for me athletically and academically. Everyone made me feel like I belonged at Bluefield"
Bluefield's move to the Mid-South Conference will be a huge jump for Bluefield volleyball, and Coach Votaw has done an outstanding job to bring in a huge incoming class to not only compete, but also be successful at the highest level. As four-year starter Duarte has now finished her career, several girls will look to step into that role including Dutton.
