A Brief History of our Programs
Bluefield College is a private, Christ-centered, four-year liberal arts institution, located in Bluefield, Virginia, that has provided quality education for thousands of students since 1922.Bluefield College is affiliated with the Baptist General Association of Virginia and endeavors to equip students for life and career development by blending a strong core of liberal arts studies with career-oriented majors. Bluefield College's venture into adult education grew out of the changing demographics of the college's student population. More and more adult learners were continuing their education. Quite naturally, these were working adults who needed classes offered at a time that would complement busy schedules. In the fall of 1990, BC not only introduced a new degree, Management of Human Resources, but also a new delivery system – an accelerated degree completion program that would involve classroom attendance only one night a week. In the fall of 2011, BC once again takes the initiative to introduce the new online delivery system. All the accelerated degree programs are being offered online. We began as a service to the immediate regional area and have grown into a Commonwealth outreach. Today, Bluefield College currently enrolls over 300 working adults who made the [inSpirational] aspirational choice to finish their degrees. Five degree completion options are available: Human Services, Public Safety with concentrations in Criminal Justice, Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security and Critical Infrastructure and Pre-law, Management and Leadership. Classes are not only held in our regional offices but from these bases of operation, class sites fan out to community college campuses, public libraries, private corporations – in places like South Boston, Rocky Mount, Richlands, Wytheville, Fredericksburg, Lynchburg, Chesapeake, Hampton, Virginia Beach and Norfolk. Since 1990, some 3000 working adult students have reaped the benefits of completing a degree with Bluefield College. And yes, you can too!
