Transfer Students

Students wishing to transfer from other colleges and universities will be considered for admission when they have submitted the following items to the Admissions Office:

  1. A completed application for admission.
  2. Official college transcripts.
  3. Official transcripts of all academic work, including high school transcripts and test scores, if fewer than 12 earned semester hours have been completed.

Evaluation of Transfer Credit:

An evaluation of transfer credit will be completed by the Registrar to determine which courses will apply toward the student's degree program. A minimum of one-year enrollment (full or part-time) and 32 semester hours is required for all degrees. The College reserves the right to evaluate all transfer credits in terms of its own institutional standards. Credit hours transferred are used toward fulfilling graduation requirements. Quality point requirements for graduation are based only upon work completed at Bluefield College.

Transfer Credit from Two-Year Institutions:

Up to 68 semester hours of work will be accepted from a two-year accredited institution toward a four-year degree at Bluefield College. A maximum of nine (9) semester hours of course work with "D" grades may be transferred. "D" grades will not be accepted for transfer in major or minor areas. "D" grades will not be accepted for transfer in Teacher Education programs.

Articulation Agreements:

Bluefield College has an articulation agreement with the Virginia Community College System. Under the terms of this agreement, students who graduate from Virginia community colleges with an Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, or Associate of Arts and Science degree programs, and have achieved a GPA of at least 2.5 in their academic work are eligible for automatic acceptance upon completion of the application procedures for Bluefield College. Transfer Credit from Four-Year Institutions:

A student who has attended another accredited four-year institution, and is in good standing, may apply for admission to the College no later than the beginning of the senior year. "D" grades will not be accepted for transfer in major or minor areas. "D" grades will not be accepted for transfer in Teacher Education programs. A minimum of 32 semester hours, including 12 semester hours of the major, must be completed at Bluefield College.

Miscellaneous Transfer Credit:

Bluefield College also awards transfer credit from the following areas:

  • Advanced Placement (AP) Courses
  • College Level Examination Program (CLEP) or DANTES Examinations
  • Military Credit
