Bluefield College is a private, Christ-centered, four-year liberal arts institution, located in Bluefield, Virginia, that has provided quality education for thousands of students since 1922.
We are affiliated with the Baptist General Association of Virginia and endeavor to equip students for life and career development by blending a strong core of liberal arts studies with career-oriented majors. With the appropriate number and type of prior college credits transferred to Bluefield College, students may complete an accelerated online bachelor's degree in as early as 13 months.
Coursework required for accelerated online degree completion is sequenced and builds on prior classes, providing an integrated educational experience. In keeping with a liberal arts education, the curriculum emphasizes a broad array of perspectives. The dynamics of the classroom are based on applying theories and concepts to real-world settings. Student experience and faculty expertise are integrated to create a stimulating learning environment differing from the traditional lecture format.
Bluefield College's venture into adult education grew out of the changing demographics of the college's student population. More and more adult learners were continuing their education. Quite naturally, these were working adults who needed classes offered at a time that would complement busy schedules. In the fall of 1990, BC not only introduced a new degree, Management of Human Resources, but also a new delivery system – an accelerated degree completion program that would involve classroom attendance only one night a week.
In the fall of 2011, BC once again took the initiative to introduce a new online delivery system. All of the accelerated degree programs started being offered online. It began as a service to the immediate regional area and has grown into both a Commonwealth and national outreach.
Bluefield College currently enrolls over 300 working adults who made the aspirational choice to finish their degrees. Since 1990, some 3,000 working adult students have reaped the benefits of completing a degree with Bluefield College, and yes, you can, too!
All faculty members possess a combination of academic credentials, practical experience in the field, and a commitment to the Christian heritage of Bluefield College.
Students enrolled in the online degree program at Bluefield College are considered full-time students and may qualify for federal and state financial aid programs. Many Virginia residents qualify for the Virginia Tuition Assistance Grant (VTAG), which does not need to be repaid.
Bluefield College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award associate, baccalaureate, and masters degrees. Contact the Commission on Colleges at 1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097 or call 404.679.4500 for questions about the accreditation of Bluefield College.
Students are encouraged to communicate directly with the institutional department for which they have a concern. All academic concerns, including grade appeals, should follow the procedures listed in the current Academic Catalog. In the event that institutional department leadership is unable to provide complaint resolution, the Director of Online Programs will serve as the next level facilitator in online student complaint resolution; as necessary, this will include partnership with Vice-Presidents and the President.
Only if a student feels his or her complaint has not been resolved satisfactorily through this procedure and has sufficient evidence supporting this claim, he or she may submit a Student Complaint Form to the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV). More details on the formal SCHEV student complaints procedure can be found on the SCHEV agency page at www.schev.edu. SCHEV provides oversight in Virginia for resolving institution complaints from students taking distance education under the aegis of SARA.
