There are three departments within the Fine Arts Division: Art and Design, Music, and Theatre Arts. In Music we offer concentrations in Church Music, Music Education, Applied Music, and Instrumental Music. In Theatre we have majors in Theatre Arts and Christian Drama and in Art and Design we offer majors in Art, Art Education, and Graphic Communications. Each year the Fine Arts Division provides opportunities for students with on campus performances in Harman Chapel and for students to exhibit their art work in the Bluefield College Art Gallery. The Fine Arts Division has several Fine Arts Scholarships available each year so be sure and inquire about these. Please browse our website and contact us if you have any further questions.
Majors
At Bluefield College we specialize in the traditional arts of Drawing, Painting, Ceramics, and Sculpture. We also offer classes in Graphic Design and Art History. Our curriculum is geared for preparation to attend graduate school or enter the work place. You can major in Art, Graphic Communications or pursue teacher certification in Art Education.
The music curriculum is designed to train music educators and church musicians, to help all students gain a better understanding of and appreciation for a variety of musical expressions, and to provide experiences which result in intellectual, artistic, emotional, and spiritual growth for its students. This is achieved by providing studies and experiences relevant to a student's background which develop skills in the performance of music, generate insights into the nature of music, and provide for an understanding of the relationship of music to the world in which we live.
The Department of Theatre Arts offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre Arts and Christian Drama. The department offers students the opportunity to pursue a career in the theatre arts and be involved in on-campus productions. The department seeks to provide experiences which will result in intellectual, artistic, emotional, and spiritual growth for its students. Available are a broad range of courses and activities, individualized instruction, scholarships and performance opportunities on and off-campus, an outstanding and highly qualified faculty, and the Bluefield College Fine Arts Series.
