Endorsement Areas

VISUAL ARTS PREK-12

For licensure to teach Art in grades PREK-12, the student must complete the bachelor of arts degree with a major in Visual Art. The program is designed to align with the competencies in the Virginia Standards of Learning.

SCIENCE--BIOLOGY 6-12

For licensure to teach biology in grades 6-12, the student must complete the bachelor of science degree with a major in biology. The program is designed to align with the competencies in the Virginia Standards of Learning.

CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION: BUSINESS INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY 6-12

For licensure to teach business in grades 6-12, the student must complete the bachelor of science degree with a major in business. The program is designed to align with the competencies in the Virginia Standards of Learning.

SCIENCE-CHEMISTRY 6-12

For licensure to teach chemistry in grades 6-12, the student must complete the bachelor of science degree with a major in chemistry. The program is designed to align with the competencies in the Virginia Standards of Learning.

ELEMENTARY EDUCATION PREK-6

For licensure to teach in grades PREK-6, the student must complete the bachelor of science degree with a major in Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS). This major requires a concentration in English, History and Social Science, Mathematics, and Science. The program is designed to align with the competencies in the Virginia Standards of Learning.

ENGLISH 6-12, SPEECH ADD-ON AND JOURNALISM ADD-ON

For licensure to teach English in grades 6-12, the student must complete the bachelor of arts degree with a major in English. An endorsement in Speech or Journalism may be added to the English endorsement. The program is designed to align with the competencies in the Virginia Standards of Learning.

HEALTH AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION PREK-12

For licensure to teach physical education and health in grades PREK-12, the student must complete the bachelor of arts or bachelor of science degree with a major in Exercise and Sport Science. The program is designed to align with the competencies in the Virginia Standards of Learning.

HISTORY AND SOCIAL SCIENCES 6-12

For licensure to teach history and social science in grades 6-12, the student must complete the bachelor of arts or bachelor of science degree with a major in history and social science. The program is designed to align with the competencies in the Virginia Standards of Learning.

MATHEMATICS 6-12

For licensure to teach mathematics in grades 6-12, the student must complete the bachelor of science degree with a major in mathematics. The program is designed to align with the competencies in the Virginia Standards of Learning.

MATHEMATICS-ALGEBRA I ADD-ON

An endorsement to teach Algebra I may be added to an endorsement in chemistry or biology.

MUSIC EDUCATION-INSTRUMENTAL PREK-12

For licensure to teach instrumental music in grades PREK-12, the student must complete the bachelor of arts degree with a major in music. The program is designed to align with the competencies in the Virginia Standards of Learning.

MUSIC EDUCATION-VOCAL/CHORAL PREK-12

For licensure to teach vocal/choral music in grades PREK-12, the student must complete the bachelor of arts degree with a major in music. The program is designed to align with the competencies in the Virginia Standards of Learning.

SPECIAL EDUCATION: GENERAL CURRICULUM K-12

For licensure to teach Special Education: General Curriculum grades K-12, the student must complete the bachelor of science degree with a major in Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS).
